February-March 2026 – For over 60 years, dairy and beef cows have continued to ransack — compact, de-vegetate, desiccate, trample, and pollute with manure — almost 20,000 acres of the Point Reyes National Seashore‘s over 70,000 acres, despite being designated a national park back in 1962.

This illustrates the ongoing political power of the cattle industry lobby. And their dominance continues to this day, even after The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has entered the drama, having paid 12 of 14 departing ranch leasors to surrender their leases of this public land with multi-million dollar pay-0uts. (Most ranchers still cry foul and plead poverty to a hoodwinked public, crying all the way to the bank. They pose as poor, hard-working victims while they are, in reality, millionaires (though not billionaires) who have been on the government dole for decades. (YOU, dear reader, are still paying to subsidize these unprofitable dairy and beef businesses.)
The video clip above shows the biggest-ever herd of beef cows — over 600 — ever recorded on this Point Reyes dairy cow farm — even thought it’s finally closing down in April of 2026.
And, even more disturbing, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) plans to use hundreds of private, for-profit, beef cows to “restore” these public lands beaten-down-by-cows (and address the surrounding manure-polluted waterways) by… bringing in hundreds more cows! Thus defying both common sense and ecological science.
But this non-science DOES make sense to “range scientists” whose baseline assumptions are, you guessed it, pro-cattle industry. The same industry responsible for the marketing and public relation campaign of “regenerative ranching.” Which is an oxymoron, like “clean coal” and “compassionate conservatism.” This is the Grade-A, free-range, local, historic bullsh*t which the dairy and beef businesses feed the public a steady diet of. To keep people eating their environmentally devastating dairy and beef products while insisting that Point Reyes, California, the America’s and the entire planet NEEDS various “new” types of cattle grazing in order to be healthy.
This non-science all boils down to the assertion that moving grazing cows around more land, more often, turns a destructive effect into a constructive effect. By moving cows more often, the claims is they then won’t damage land and instead magically “stimulate” grass growth and healthier soil.
And this practice, also variously called, “rotational grazing” and “active management” and “holistic management” and of course “conservation grazing” requires much more land devoted to cattle than current concentrated feedlots do. Which, is never admitted by its proponents, requires clearing more wildlands of wild animals and especially wild predators, since they are considered threats to cattle business profits.
Incredibly, an entire federal government agency, with the Orwellian name “Wildlife Services” is devoted to killing any wild animals a rancher calls in as a threat to his business. This includes bear, wolves, coyotes, mountain lions. And even competition from wild grazers like wild horses, elk and deer. Even these populations of gentle herbivores must be “managed” — which is the euphemism for “culled,” which is the euphemism for “shot to death.” All this killing to support the cattle business, at the expense of what little wildlife and what few wild animal populations remain. And one more essential ingredient — or perhaps a ‘non-ingredients’ of the “regenerative ranching” sales blitz: ignore the huge amounts of cow manure and the even more massive output of methane gas from the cow’s enteric digestion.
