Take heart, fans of ancient redwoods!…
The many hard-working citizens of Humboldt county (and myriad supporters from all over CA) who want to protect ancient redwood trees of Richardson Grove State Park – some over 1,000 years old – have won an important round in the long court battle with Caltrans. Caltrans is the state agency that wants to cut into the roots of dozens of protected, ancient redwoods in order to widen a highway.
Not only is this great news for these specific trees, it’s good news for us humans who benefit from seeing examples of concerned citizens making a difference. Yes, a concerned local community CAN preserve our precious, wild, national heritage despite a state beauracracy’s lack of vision and compassion.
If smart, caring, dedicated people gather together, apply their collective fiscal, legal, intellectual and human resources, wise environmental goals benefiting future generations CAN be achieved! Take heart people!
